Events and celebrations in the Ukrainian calendar year.

According to the Law of Ukraine, in cases where a public holiday falls on the weekend (Saturday or Sunday), the weekend is extended by one day.

Red marks the official holidays wich are days off.

Brown marks the official holidays which are working days.

Green marks the celebrations, which change date.

• St. Nicholas Holidag. St. Nicholas was the background of the Santa Claus character.

• Battle of Brail (1666).

• Mykola Vironovsky – Ukrainian church composer, ruler of the bishop's choir in the Uspensky Cathedral of Odesa – born (1910/12/19 – 1985/02/19).

• The Ukrainian thoracic surgeon, medical scientist, cybernetician and literary man Mykola Amosov was born (1913/12/19 – 2002/12/12).

• Mykola Rudenko was born (1920/12/19 – 2004/04/01) – Ukrainian writer, human rights activist, leader and one of the founders of the Ukrainian Helsinki group.

• The first phase of the Kyiv hydropower plant began (1964).

• The lawyer's day (since 2002).
