Events and celebrations in the Ukrainian calendar year.

According to the Law of Ukraine, in cases where a public holiday falls on the weekend (Saturday or Sunday), the weekend is extended by one day.

Red marks the official holidays wich are days off.

Brown marks the official holidays which are working days.

Green marks the celebrations, which change date.

• The Ukrainian writer, dramatist and journalist Grigory Kvitka was born –pseudonym Osnovyanenko, (1778/12/10 – 1843/09/01).

• Iryna Nevitska, maiden name Burik, was born (1886/12/10 – 1966/11/21) – Ukrainian Slovak author of rusic origin.

• Human Rights Day is celebrated on a proposal from the UN General Assembly since 1950.

• The first energy unit of the nuclear power plant Zaporizhzhya produced electricity (1984).

Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved the monetary unit of the state – hryvnia (1991).
