On 1 January Ukrainians celebrate New Year. 

According to the Law of Ukraine, in cases where a public holiday falls on the weekend (Saturday or Sunday), the weekend is extended by one day.

Red marks the holidays wich are days off.

Brown marks the holidays which are working days.

Green marks the celebrations, which change date.

1st of January

New Year has been celebrated in Ukraine from year 1700.

• The Ukrainian opera singer (baritone) Modest Witoszynskyj was born (01.01.1856 – 12.08.1901).

• The first flying club in Ukraine was opened in Kharkiv (1925).

• Cuts German troops' offensive against Sevastopol under the Kerch-Feodosiya operation (1942).

• International Day of Peace has been celebrated since 1967.
