Events and celebrations in the Ukrainian calendar year.

According to the Law of Ukraine, in cases where a public holiday falls on the weekend (Saturday or Sunday), the weekend is extended by one day.

Red marks the official holidays wich are days off.

Brown marks the official holidays which are working days.

Green marks the celebrations, which change date.

7 August

• Panteleimon Kulish was born (1819/08/07 – 1897/02/14) – one of the leaders of Ukrainianophilism, novelist, poet, folkloreist, ethnographer, translator, critic, editor, historian and publisher. Author of the term «village-philosophy». The creator of «kulishovka» – one of the early versions of the Ukrainian alphabet, main author of the first Ukrainian translation of the Bible.

• Ukrainian Derzhava and the Don Army Oblast signed an agreement on the borders (1918).

• Stepan Bevzenko was born (1920/08/07 – 2005/01/15) – Ukrainian linguist and pedagogue, researcher in history and the dialects of the Ukrainian language.

• The law «About Five Axes» was adopted (1932).

• The Chernivtsi region was formed (1940).
