• Gnat Hotkevich, pseudonym Gnat Galayda, was born (1877/12/31 – 1938/10/08) – Ukrainian musician, author, historian, composer, art historian, ethnographer, teacher, theater and socio-political figure.

• Mikhail Semenko was born (1892/12/31 – 1937/10/23) – Ukrainian poet, founder and theorist of Ukrainian futurism.

• The Ukrainian educational community was founded in Prague (1930).

• The world's largest blast furnace, located in Krivyi Rig, gave the first cast iron (1974).
