Mother's Day in Ukraine

Mother's Day has since 2000 been celebrated in Ukraine on the second Sunday in May.

The Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk congratulates Ukrainian women with Mother's Day. «In Ukrainian families there have always been great respect for the mother and housewife who takes care of the home and which is a sensitive educator for children. Mother is for each of us the personification of the best human traits, the symbol of holiness and goodness», Yatsenyuk said in his greeting.

He thanked the mothers for their patience and faithfulness, kindness and life wisdom. The Prime Minister wished for the mothers, that the smile in their eyes do not disappear and wished luck to them and their children.

The song of the Ukrainian mothers and soldiers

The famous Ukrainian singer Ani Lorak has dedicated a song of the Ukrainian composer and poet Volodymyr Ivasyuk «The Ballad of Malva» for Ukrainian mothers and their sons.

On 8 May, the video for the song was published. If you look at it, you will see that the song is dedicated not just to mothers, but also to soldiers who have died and those who continue to die for the fatherland.

«The Ballad of Malva» – sad, touching and emotionally strong composition in which every sound, every intonation reveals the theme, which is life forever. That is how Ani Lorak described the song.

The first monument for mothers in Ukraine

A monument to mothers has been raised in the Donetsk region of Ukraine. The monument was inaugurated May 10, 2003 on the territory of the regional center of Donetsk for mothers and children's health. The inauguration was held on Mother's Day.

The artist behind the sculpture is the Armenian sculptor Kalantaryan Karlen. The sculpture is made after a sketch of Nicholai Yasinenko.

The sculpture is two meters high and is made of sandstone. The monument is a woman standing at full height. She has a little child in her arms.
